All About Matt and Luciana Damon's 4 Daughters, Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella

Matt Damon is famously "outnumbered" by his wife Luciana and their four daughters, Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella—and he wouldn't have it any other way. The Interstellar actor has been a father since 2005, when he became an "extra dad" to Luciana's daughter Alexia.

"I feel like fatherhood has made my job a lot easier in a lot of ways," Matt once told Fatherly. "All those emotions that I used to have to reach for are just readily accessible. I don’t have to twist myself into knots to find something—it’s just sitting right there all the time."

Following Matt and Luciana's New York City nuptials, little sisters Isabella, Gia, and Stella were born in 2006, 2008, and 2010, respectively. The Invictus actor has since paid permanent tribute to all four daughters (and his wife) by getting their names tattooed in cursive on his right arm. Matt and Luciana also have matching tattoos designed by the late actor Heath Ledger.

In 2012, Matt revealed that the family have a "two-week rule," meaning they can't be apart for longer than two weeks. When he filmed Invictus in South Africa, following that rule ultimately led to flying out Alexia's entire class for a visit with Nelson Mandela.

"It was a worthwhile trip—and it meant that my family would only stay apart for a short amount of time," he explained in an interview with The Guardian. "As long as the trip didn't cost more than I was being paid for the movie, it was a good deal for me."

"Your kids show up—like that spirit that soul is there, and it's going to do what it's going to do," he said. "The nurture part is very important; you're going to be helping with that, but they really are who they are right away." His advice for enjoying parenthood? "Don't blink."

Alexia Barroso

Luciana and Matt's eldest daughter Alexia was born in 1999 to the Argentine and her then-husband Arbello Barroso. The couple subsequently divorced; Alexia was four when her mom coupled up with Matt.

"I jumped into the deep end with Lucy," Matt later said of their whirlwind romance. "I mean, Alexia was already four. I was an extra dad."

It wasn't all smooth sailing for the Air actor, however; on the contrary, apparently Luciana initially turned him down when he asked her out. She told him she needed to get home to her kiddo. "That was one of the things he loved, that I had a daughter," she told Vogue Australia. "He said, 'I love that you're a mum and that's your priority.'"

Alexia has grown up away from the spotlight, but she did make a cameo in her dad's 2009 comedy We Bought a Zoo. The actor also taught his eldest how to drive, according to a 2015 interview with USA Today. Isabella Damon

Matt and Luciana's second daughter Isabella was born on June 11, 2006 in Miami, Florida. Much like Alexia, the Floridian grew up to be a tough critic of her dad's acting career and is "one of the funniest people" Matt has ever met.

"If the reviews come out and they're terrible, then she'll watch it," he told E! News of whether or not Isabella has seen his films. "If they come out and they're good, she's going to pass ... She's looking for ammunition all the time."

Isabella graduated from her Brooklyn-based high school in 2024 with plans to attend NYU. Anticipating her Bra out of the house, Damon told E! News in a 2024 interview, “It’s a surreal kind of time...it just feels like I was holding her yesterday.”

The couple's third daughter, Gia, was born on August 20, 2008 in Miami, Florida. At the time, Matt told People that being outnumbered in a house of girls was "really great." Gia has since joined him on set for movies like True Git, which was filmed in New Mexico. "I don't remember when I brushed her hair for the last time...The changes are so incremental that you don't realize."

Stella Damon

Matt and Luciana's fourth and final daughter, Stella, was born October 20, 2010, in New York City. At the time, the Suburbicon star told People that the transition from three to four was "pretty crazy," adding, "it's a whole new dynamic."

In a 2012 interview with The Guardian, Matt explained his and Luciana's decision to raise their daughters in the Big Apple. "They can walk around the streets and just by looking around them see that the world is composed of all different people from different walks of life, different languages and different socio-economic backgrounds," he said.

The Oscar-winning actor also told the outlet that he did not grow up with immense privilege, and thus hopes to instill some perspective in his four daughters. "How do you raise any kid with a true understanding and context of what kind of life they have versus what kind of life other people have?" He mused. "It's a constant struggle no matter who you are."

Practically speaking, one way Matt and Luciana avoid "spoiling" their children is by donating all of the free toys and gifts that get sent to the family home.

“They don’t need anything. So we send everything on to people who need it,” Matt once told Today. “When people send stuff to my kids, my kids have everything they need so we pass it right on. This is the life we’re giving them."
