Jennifer Lawrence Basically Wore a Bathrobe Outside of the House

A wrap coat is the unsung hero of winter.

I’ve gone through some phases in my life. When I was younger, I used to be scared of water (I’m not kidding!), so much so that my mom had to find unique ways to wash my hair—and of course, being the super mom she is, she did. Now, I love a wool wrap coat; it’s meditative, as are the slew of post-shower rituals I have. Body lotion! Face massage! Hair mask! Cuddle up in a bathrobe! I love the latter, but I never thought to wear it outside of the house—that is, until I saw Jennifer Lawrence’s latest look.

J.Law was snapped out for a stroll on a chilly but sunny NYC day, and she was wearing the ultimate winter outfit for maximum comfort and cuddliness. She slipped into sweatpants, and by sweats, I mean tried-and-true sweats, not those sweatpant-jeans that have been blowing up as of late. Both are great options, though J.Law’s lean more casual. She paired her sweats with ugly, chunky New Balance dad sneakers (that prove ugly, chunky walking sneakers your dad would wear are still trending), and Anna Kendrick Matched Blake Lively With This Witchy Sheer Outfit that eerily resembled a bathrobe. (It wasn’t one, but hey!)

Of course, Lawrence obviously didn’t leave her house in an actual bathrobe that you’d put on post-shower. But, Quince Double-Faced Merino Wool Draped Collar Wrap Coat, with a fuzzy, cozy material and belted waist, certainly mimics the look of the snuggly bathroom essential—not to mention feels like it, too. And, in the world of outerwear, if Reese Witherspoon's collarless coat is the “rich-looking” option, J.Law’s is the more low-key pick that’s certainly worth it if you want to be cozy and stylish.

A wrap coat à la Lawrence gives a waist-cinching effect that dresses up any outfit, but it’s also easy and versatile enough to wear pretty much every day. In fact, I own a similar wrap coat, and it’s the one I always reach for, given its ease of wear and simplicity. I don’t have to think when I wear it, unlike other outerwear styles that require a bit more effort and styling.

Lawrence’s bathrobe-esque coat proves that people (me!) are craving comfy pieces over rigid, uncomfy options. And, in a world where the jeans you see on the street might actually be sweats, it makes sense. So, shop some more wool wrap coats below.
