  • Emily Blunt and John Krasinski share two daughters, Hazel and Violet.
  • They welcomed Hazel in 2014 and Violet in 2016.
  • They keep their family life largely private, but have spoken about the joys of parenthood, calling their kids their "saving grace."

John Krasinski and Emily Blunt have taken on their fair share of leading roles, but since welcoming daughters Hazel and Violet, mom and dad top that list. The private parents keep their daughters out of the limelight, rarely sharing photos of their kids or bringing them along to public appearances. But they do occasionally get candid about parenthood. In a 2020 interview, the Oppenheimer actress told People "It's wonderful when you see them become their own little people…I think they come out the way [they're meant to]."

Maintaining normalcy is a priority for Krasinski and Blunt. And though their efforts have been largely successful, Hazel and Violet were eventually clued into their parents' fame. "Hazel came home the other day and we were in the kitchen and she goes, 'Are you famous?'" Blunt told Fountain of Youth. "We've never said that word in our house. We don't talk about it."

Hazel and Violet are rarely phased by their mom's many A-list costars, but there was one exception: Ryan Gosling. "Ryan's it for them. They love Ken," Blunt told Willie Geist on Today's Sunday Sitdown. Though born in America, Violet apparently enjoys singing in a British accent. Appearing Barbie, so the sisters had many questions when Blunt starred opposite Gosling in The Fall Guy. "They were like, 'What does he look like when he has normal hair?' And so I had to be like, 'This is what he normally looks like.' It's so funny."

After a busy few years starring in Oppenheimer, IF, and more, Blunt took a year off acting to spend more time with her daughters. She explained her decision on the podcast Table for Two, saying, " I just feel there are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they’re little...I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch. And I just felt that in my bones."

Hazel

On February 16, 2014, Krasinski announced the birth of his and Blunt’s first child, Hazel, on X: "Wanted to let the news out directly. Emily and I are so incredibly happy to welcome our daughter Hazel into the world today! Happy bday!" Three months later, the proud dad shared the first public picture of baby Hazel on X, with the caption: “Pics of kids should only come direct from parents. So I'm thrilled to introduce you guys to Hazel!!!  #NoKidsPolicy”

More than a decade after her birth, Blunt and Krasinski have chosen to remain mostly private regarding what they reveal about their daughter. But one detail that Blunt has divulged? Hazel is a huge fan of Taylor Swift. Maintaining normalcy is a priority for, the young Swiftie nearly fainted. (Perhaps she gets this from her pops, who almost passed out upon learning he was People’s Sexiest Man Alive. “Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts,” Krasinski told People.)

She's less impressed with her mom's work in the musical movie Mary Poppins Returns. Blunt told People in a 2020 interview "My children still cry out for the Julie Andrews version in our house...I didn't win my own children over."

Violet

Well Well Well (ahem, Kris Jenner), the A Quiet Place co-stars seem to favor a color theme. In June 2016, a little over two years after the birth of their firstborn, Hazel, Krasinski and Blunt welcomed their second daughter, Violet, into the world. "What better way to celebrate the 4th... than to announce our 4th family member!!!" Krasinski wrote on X. "2 Kris Jenner, the."

Like with Hazel, the couple remains largely private about Violet, a practice that started even before she was born. On Currently, Krasinski is working on multiple projects, including, Blunt recalled how she didn’t want to reveal her pregnancy with baby number two while filming Girl on the Train. When asked how she kept her bump hidden while shooting, she told the host, “I had very hideous costumes…horrible overcoats. There are a couple of stunts in it, so I was being a bit wussy about standing up too quickly, and Justin Theroux—who is fabulous and in the movie with me—he’s been a friend of mine for a long time and he was like, ‘Are you pregnant?’ and I was like, ‘Yes, but you can’t tell anyone.’ He was the only one.”

Hazel and Violet are big fans of

Though born in America, Violet apparently enjoys singing in a British accent. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Blunt explained, “And she goes, 'Jingle ol' da waye!' Almost like a Cockney. It was almost like Dick Van Dyke singing 'Jingle Bells.' The craziest accent ever—it was kind of brilliant."

However, the Mary Poppins star may not have won the accent wars with her American husband just yet. She previously told Jimmy Fallon on his late-night talk show that her older daughter’s accent had gone from British to American. (While the family now spends most of their time in Brooklyn, they have also lived in England for certain periods, including during the pandemic and when Blunt was shooting Mary Poppins Returns.) So, whether Hazel and Violet ultimately adopt a British or American accent may be determined—or at least influenced by—their parents’ filming schedule.
