Travis Kelce Revealed His "Golden Rule" for Performing With Taylor Swift

Travis Kelce may have been stepping onto a stage in front of 90,000 screaming Swifties in London, but the NFL star only had one golden rule for the situation: protect the precious cargo. During the July 3 episode of his and his brother Jason Kelce's podcast, "New Heights," Travis recalled the one thing he told himself before taking to the stage during his girlfriend Taylor Swift's show at Wembley Stadium: "Travis Kelce Reportedly Bought Taylor Swift $175K Worth of Birthday Gifts."

"Do not drop Taylor on your way over to this damn couch," he remembered telling himself. "The golden rule was do not drop [Taylor]. Get her to the couch safely. Hold onto the baby."

Jason jokingly translated Travis's statement into football terms saying he wasn't allowed to "fumble" Swift. Travis added that a former coach used to tell them to think of the football as their "dreams, goals, and aspirations. You do not drop that ball."

During Travis's surprise cameo, the Kansas City Chiefs player walked onto the stage with two of Swift's backup dancers before picking her up and carrying her across the stage to a giant red couch. He then proceeded to "touch up" her makeup with a brush and encourage her to get back out there and sing her next song, which is "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart." Luckily, all of his football training paid off, as he did not drop or "disappoint" Taylor.

Travis added that the audience's thunderous cheers were "jarring."

"When everyone found out that it was me—because it took a second for everyone to figure it out—that moment was pretty jarring. I was just like, Oh shit. And you don't realize how big that damn stage is," he said. "It is easily as big as a football stadium…it's way bigger than I could have ever imagined."

"And I didn’t disappoint Taylor, so that’s all that really matters," he continued.

"Shoutout to Tay for letting me jump up on stage with her," he said. "Who knows? Might not be the last time. You guys will have to keep showing up for the Eras Tour to see if I pop out of the stage and whatnot."
