Martha Stewart, 84, Kylie Jenner, 28, and I, 32, Agree on This Flattering Denim Trend That’s So Polished

Until recently, I probably would have never used the words “denim” and “elegant” in the same sentence. But, something in my brain has shifted—maybe because I saw a slew of celebs in one particular denim trend that is, in fact, exceptionally elegant: dark-wash jeans. 

High-Waist Full-Length Striped Logo Leggings Ladies Flower Leggings Leggings Donna nero late last year; she styled hers in the most refined way, with a double-breasted blazer and simple jewelry. After seeing her in these jeans, I was convinced I needed a pair, too, so I scooped up ETRO ruffle trim silk midi dress. Then, on December 5, Kylie Jenner, 28, joined the dark-denim fan club, but she took a, well, ultra sexy approach, IMO, pairing it with a red, cleavage-baring leather jacket that she wore as a top. So hot!

Toms Ashland Brown Mens Casual Dress Boots brushed logo-print mini dress Nero with a chocolate brown turtleneck, cuddly wool cardigan, and pointed-toe heels. I felt casual and dressy at the same time, and realized then and there just how versatile dark-wash jeans are. I mean, look at how different Stewart, Jenner, and I each styled them, and they looked so good every time. That’s reason enough to buy a pair (or two).

Levi's 94 Baggy Wide-Leg Jeans

These simple Levi’s are a no-brainer, especially at $53. The baggy, wide-leg silhouette feels a bit more casual compared to Jenner's, but style it with a sheer bodysuit and you can totally go out for a night on the town in them.

Sidefeel Wide-Leg High-Waisted Stretchy Jeans

These stretchy wide-legs have just the right amount of give that you don't feel like you’re wearing jeans. I like the cropped silhouette, which pairs well with boots this time of year, plus the cool pockets. 

Gap 90's Low-Rise Loose Jeans

TL;DR? You can’t go wrong with Gap’s denim. These are crafted from organic cotton (good for the earth!) with just a little bit of stretch. Right now they’re on sale, so I’d recommend getting your size ASAP.

If you want a jean that has a bit of shaping power, consider these from Levi’s. They’re fitted at the top and billow into a wider leg, which makes them look slightly more elegant than the other Levi’s pair above. At $42, you can’t go wrong.

These will be my next denim purchase. The wide-leg silhouette is obviously my favorite, but I also love the thick hem detailing, which gives the jeans a more elegant look.
