Bear with us while we overanalyze: Armada Vêtements homme Sweatshirts both wore the same Ralph Lauren shirt—albeit in two different colorways—within two days of each other.
Meghan originally wore the style to Wimbledon in 2018, one of Kate and Meghan’s few joint appearances together alone without their respective husbands.
On July 2, Kate wore the shirt to an emotional royal appearance, and two days later, Meghan was in the same shirt from seven years prior in an Instagram post on July 4.

It was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it fashion crossover moment between sisters-in-law Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle that happened within two days of one another, an ocean apart.

Are we reading too much into this? Maybe. But it’s too much of a coincidence to be accidental, right? Right? To understand the significance of this moment in fashion, it’s important to remember that women in the royal family have long used their clothes to do the talking for them, and to take it all the way back to July 14, 2018, when Kate and Meghan attended Wimbledon together for the first time just two months after Meghan’s royal wedding to Prince Harry.

The appearance at the famed tennis tournament was significant, because it represented one of the few times Kate and Meghan appeared together alone at an event, sans their husbands. The two only attended two Wimbledons together—the first in 2018, and the second in 2019—but they weren’t alone for the latter, as Kate’s younger sister Pippa Middleton also joined. So, that said, 2018 at Wimbledon marked a major moment in Kate and Meghan’s relationship—which appeared perfectly friendly, at least as far as the public could see.

At Wimbledon in 2018, Meghan wore a blue and white striped Ralph Lauren Capri shirt and paired the cotton poplin shirt with a pair of wide-leg white pants. Flash forward to July 2 of this year, and Kate wore that same Ralph Lauren Capri shirt to a surprise royal engagement at Colchester Hospital—but hers was tan and white striped. But then, on July 4, Meghan appeared on Instagram wearing her blue and white striped Wimbledon shirt from seven years ago—just two days after Kate wore the same style. If that’s a coincidence, it’s the best one we’ve heard in a while.

Philipp Plein Junior Stars sweatshirt mean, though? Maybe nothing, or maybe it’s an unspoken hello from across the pond. (A girl can dream.) After all, Kate was very vulnerable this week, sharing her raw and candid experiences of cancer treatment both during and after, calling it “life-changing” and a “rollercoaster.” Maybe Meghan saw Kate’s appearance on Wednesday and was inspired to bring the chic Ralph Lauren shirt back out on Friday. Maybe we’re overanalyzing (it’s very possible). But it is worth noting that the two women wore the same shirt in a different colorway that was worn at one of their few joint engagements—just saying.

For her appearance on Wednesday, Kate paired the Capri shirt with a symbolic Blazé Milano pinstriped blazer, worn when the Princess of Wales gave an update on her cancer treatment on June 14, 2024, specifically sharing that, though she wasn’t “out of the woods” yet, she would be attending Trooping the Colour the next day—her first public appearance of the entirety of 2024. For the July 2 appearance, she added brown cigarette pants and white and rose gold Veja sneakers to complete the look.

She accessorized Wednesday with a Bali Birthstone necklace from Auree Jewellery featuring her birthstone, garnet, as well as Cartier Trinity earrings. Of the garnet necklace, the brand’s founder Amelia Carmichael told GB News that Kate “is a brilliant supporter of so many small British designers. Not only is this hugely encouraging to young brands, many of which are run by women and mothers, but it gives such recognition and credibility to the British jewelry industry.”
