Jasmine Tookes on Why She'll Always Choose Fashion Classics Over Trends

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who understands fashion quite like supermodel Jasmine Tookes. As one of the premiere faces in fashion, she's starred in countless ad campaigns, posed for the world’s top photographers, and earned her wings as a Victoria’s Secret angel. 

Though the supermodel has spent nearly half her life in front of the camera, she’s also prioritized her growing family off camera, parenting alongside husband and Director of International Markets of Snap Inc., Juan David Borrero. The couple married in 2021 and welcomed a baby girl two years later. And even though she’s worn the most fabulous fashon in all the land, there’s nothing the California native and new mom loves more than the classics.

When asked to describe her style, Tookes shares two words: “Chic and simple.”

"I love classic American style," she adds. "Being able to walk into my closet, grab a top and a pant, and have it go perfectly together.” A quick scroll through the images of her off-duty ‘fits shows just how killer she can make “chic and simple” look. "I love putting on something that is timeless—like a classic sweater or a great white t-shirt—and then styling it a bit so it fits wherever I’m going. There is an incredible grey Banana Republic sweater I’ve had for years that I wear all the time. I’ll add jeans and a kitten heel if I’m going to dinner or have it thrown over my shoulders on top of a white t-shirt if I’m out running errands."

How She Shops

"I'm always looking for timeless, classic pieces that can go with anything. I’m really excited about the suede jacket that’s in the Banana Republic Spring collection. You can really wear it in so many ways—with jeans, a dress, beautiful trousers."

Her Style Advice for New Moms

"I think comfort is the most important thing. You can still wear your sweaters and sweatpants and look put together by throwing on a baseball cap and a cute necklace or tying your outfit together with a jacket and a great bag."

"I am drawn to designers who see fashion that inspires. I like when style motivates me to get out there and make something happen."

"Be confident. Be yourself. Never leave the house in anything that doesn’t feel comfortable and true to your personal style."

What's in Her Handbag

"Right now, I have maybe two or three portable phone chargers in there, Weleda Skinfood, Chanel Lip Balm, a pair of pilates socks, and, of course, sunglasses. To be honest with you, my handbag is really filled with things for my daughter, Mia. We can probably call it Mia’s handbag, not mine."

How She Chooses Her Investment Pieces

"Anything that is timeless and created from natural fabrics. My closet is filled with pieces that I know will last for seasons to come. I’ve really been building a capsule wardrobe, and I feel like when you’re doing that, you want to have pieces that stand the test of time. I’d say that’s what I like to invest in."

Why She Chooses Classics Over Trends

"There are pieces I always gravitate towards, and they are definitely timeless. So, I’d say my style leans more towards classics. It was a lot of fun to shoot the Banana Republic Classics campaign because it’s not too far off from my own personal style. I really felt like myself on set. I’m so excited to share the images with everyone."
