Eve Hewson on Date-Night Makeup, Her Summer Fragrance Obsession, and Getting Ready to Charli XCX

The ‘Bad Sisters’ star fronts Hourglass’s new Curator Eyeshadow Palette campaign and takes us through her getting-ready routine.

Night Moves explores going out through the lens of beauty. Here, discover how your favorite stars get ready to paint the town red, including what music they're playing to set the mood, the essentials decorating their vanity, and which must-have products are taking up precious real estate in their evening bag.

What does your perfect night out look like?

It involves good food and good music. My friends and I like to go out, eat, drink some wine, and then find a good DJ in a small bar and dance. That’s our thing. My favorite city is New York. I moved there when I was 18 to go to college and spent 10 years there. New York raised me—in terms of intuition how to go out, where to find the right people, and where to find the right music. And it also raised me in terms of getting dressed for a night out: Hourglass Curator Eyeshadow Palette - $68? You've got to be comfortable, but you've got to be hot. And an espresso martini will lift you to the right bar. You get right in the mood.

What are the top three songs on your getting-ready playlist?

Oh shit. Well, they evolve. I’m a bit of an obsessive person. I’ll listen to the same song over and over and over again for weeks, and then I’ll get completely sick of it and have my new favorite song. So I always have my top five. Let me look in my phone and tell you, because I just went to Glastonbury and saw Charli XCX, which was fucking incredible.

I’ve had “Unlock It” on my recently played, just because it’s reminding me [of that festival]. What else have I listened to? Oh, “Victory Lap” by Fred Again and Skepta. And then “Catch These Fists” by Wet Leg. In terms of beauty, you’ve got to see the lead singer. She’s incredible. She has pink hair. She does this winged eyeliner thing. She’s so gorgeous and so cool. She does pushups on stage. She’s a little like Gwen Stefani, a little Courtney Love. And their music is amazing! They have a new album coming out—their second album.

Hourglass Shape & Sculpt Lip Liner - $29?

I’m going to say Ellie Rowsell from Wolf Alice. Oh my god, that’s another great band. She's a female frontman. She’s so incredible on stage. I follow her on Instagram; she just seems like she's a really fun girl on a night out, and she has great style. I would want to party with her, to be honest. If I could pick anybody, that would be my dream. She’s very, very cool.

What’s your process for choosing an outfit for the night? Where do you draw inspiration, and how do things evolve from there?

I mean, I’ve always been a little bit more about the hair and makeup than the outfit. I’ll usually lean towards the color black and then do a fun eye. I’ve loved makeup since I was a teenager. Truly, since I was 12 years old. It’s my favorite part of getting ready and going out—sitting with my friends, having a cocktail, listening to music, and doing our makeup. I care much more about that. Then, I’ll usually throw on a black dress or black jeans or whatever and a tank top. The party is more about my face. My go-to is usually a great boot or a shoe with some sort of black, sexy ensemble.

As you're getting ready, what products are guaranteed to be on your vanity and why?

Hourglass has this amazing skin tint foundation that’s really, really good. It’s enough coverage, but it’s also light, so you don't feel like you’re caking it on, if you know what I mean. You can go out during the day and at night. Their airbrush concealer is also a knockout! That’s always going to go into my bag when I go out. They have neutral palettes that are really good for daytime, or they have the Futurist one, which is the bronze, which I like on my eyes because bronze weirdly brings out more blue in my eyes.

If I’m going out on a date or something, I’ll do a more bronzy, sexy eye look. Their brown espresso mascara is fantastic, and they have an amazing lip balm thing that you can use in the day. It's also good to throw in your bag when you go out. They have so many lip liners with really good shades. I also have a palette that combines a bronze shade and a highlighter in one compact, complete with a mirror. I use it to apply my makeup and then add some highlighter. You’re good to go!

What’s your skin-care routine when you get home?

There’s usually my credit card, my ID, my keys, and my phone. I usually have Polo Mints, which I get in Dublin because I can’t find them in America. And then the Airbrush concealer, the bronzer powder, a lip balm, and a lip liner. I go out with a little small shoulder bag and just throw all that shit in there, and then that’s full. It’s so annoying. I have one of the smaller iPhones just for this purpose!

What fragrance do you mist on before you run out the door?

It’s Sunkissed Goddess by By Kilian. It’s good. It smells like summer; a little bit like sun cream, but in a good way. It’ll remind you of being at the beach. But I've been wearing it, and everyone has asked me, "What is that perfume?" I really, really like it. I also like Love by By Kilian, but the one I packed on my recent trip to Ibiza was the Sunkissed one, for summertime.

What’s your skin-care routine when you get home?

I take my makeup off with a makeup wipe, and then I exfoliate and wash my face. I usually use the Neutrogena wipes, though my friend gave me this amazing black cloth that takes all your makeup off in one go, so I’ve been using that. Then, I just slap on some moisturizer—I’ve been using Augustinus Bader, which is so luxurious it’s insane, but I genuinely think it makes my skin nice and glowy—and get into bed. I was actually so proud of myself last night. We went out, and when I got home, I washed my face, brushed my teeth, jumped into bed, and put my eye mask on. I was like, Sales & Deals!
