After Rudolf "Rudi" Dassler aka the one brother of the two world-famous Dassler brothers and his younger brother Adolf "Adi" Dassler got on the wrong foot and went separate ways, Rudi started Ruda that later became PUMA in 1948. With a focus on football boots in the ´50s like the “SUPER ATOM” Puma began to make a name for themselves. In 1967 PUMA found its matching logo, created by Lutz Backes, a cartoonist from Nuremberg. With spiked shoes, like football cleats, and track & field runners already in the line-up, PUMA wanted more and they found it in the name of Walt “Clyde” Frazier, a basketball star, in-need of a special shoe he could use on the court. The Puma Clyde was born. With Diego Maradona, Boris Becker, Heike Drechsler, the Trinomic and PUMA Disc technology, the ´80s and ´90s were full of highlights. Today, Puma has it all, from classics such as the PUMA Suede or PUMA Clyde to limited-edition PUMA releases and contemporary silhouettes, see the Puma selection at SNS here.
